They come because something has become too heavy, too confusing, too painful, or too familiar to keep carrying in the same way.

Sometimes it is anxiety.
Sometimes it is shame.
Sometimes it is anger, grief, self-doubt, relationship pain, or a feeling of being disconnected from yourself.

Often, it is not one clear thing. It is a knot.

My work is about helping you stay with that knot long enough to understand it, rather than rushing to pull at the first loose thread.

How I work

I work through honest conversation, careful listening, and attention to what is happening beneath the surface.

That does not mean digging for the sake of digging. It means noticing patterns, contradictions, fears, defences, and the parts of you that may have had to stay hidden for a long time.

I will not tell you who you are.
I will not reduce you to a label.
I will not treat therapy as something I do to you.

The work is collaborative. You bring your life, your experience, your questions, and your own sense of what feels true. I bring my attention, experience, challenge, and care.

Sometimes therapy needs gentleness.
Sometimes it needs honesty.
Often, it needs both.

The aim of therapy

The aim is not to become perfect, endlessly calm, or untouched by life.

That is not human.

The aim is to become more aware of yourself. To understand why you feel what you feel. To notice where you abandon yourself, protect yourself, silence yourself, or fight yourself.

From there, something can begin to change.

Not because someone has forced it.
Not because you have been told what to do.
But because you can see more clearly.

And when you can see more clearly, you usually have more choice.

The Cognisant therapeutic principle

My work is centred around the Cognisant therapeutic principle.

At its heart, this means the person in therapy remains the person in charge.

Therapy should support your awareness, your judgement, and your relationship with yourself. It should not make you smaller, more dependent, or less able to trust your own mind.

A therapist may have training and experience, but they do not have ownership of your life.

That distinction matters.

You are not there to become a good client.
You are there to become more honestly yourself.

What therapy may involve

Therapy may involve talking about the past, but it is not only about the past.

It may involve looking at childhood, relationships, loss, trauma, shame, fear, anger, avoidance, self-criticism, or the ways you learned to cope when there were not many better options available.

It may also involve looking at what is happening now.

How you speak to yourself.
How you respond to closeness.
How you deal with conflict.
How you protect yourself.
How you lose yourself.
How you come back.

The work is not always easy. But it should feel respectful. You should not feel bullied, shamed, or pushed beyond what feels safe enough to explore.

Is this work right for you?

This work may suit you if you want therapy that is thoughtful, honest, and grounded.

It may suit you if you do not want quick slogans or shallow reassurance.

It may suit you if part of you wants change, while another part of you is scared of what change might ask of you.

That is normal.

People are rarely simple. Therapy should not pretend they are.

[Book a free first session]

Therapy is not about fixing you as though you are broken.
